CHENAB BRIDGE, J&K

 

This bridge located near the International Border is considered to be of utmost importance for the Defence of our Country. Its completion has also opened up the entire Rajouri & Poonch districts of J&K to uninterrupted movement of vehicular traffic with Jammu the Winter Capital and Srinagar the Summer Capital of the State and the rest of the Country.

The construction of this bridge was continuing for the last 30 years by different contracting agencies. The work comprising the Design and Construction was entrusted to D2S Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd after calling for tenders by invitation only. The Foundation Stone was laid by Shri Gulam Nabi Azad , Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir on 28th April 2006. The bridge has been completed and handed over to the Client on 09th February 2008.

It had many V.I.P. visitors for on the job inspection including a Delegation each from MORT&H comprising of 06 Engineers (including 2 CEs); from Assam P.W.D. (R&B) comprising 06 Engineers led by the Secretary to the Govt. of Assam; from Meghalaya P.W.D. (R&B) of 03 Engineers led by Deputy Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya. More than 30 officers of B.R.O. from various Projects have also visited the bridge site among others.
